New Brunswick Extends the Private Career College Graduate Pilot Program Through the End of 2027

Government of New Brunswick Announces Extension for Eligible International Students

The Government of New Brunswick has officially announced that the Private Career College Graduate Pilot Program has been extended in a limited capacity through the end of 2027.

This is welcome news for international students who are currently studying in eligible programs at approved private career colleges in New Brunswick. The extension ensures that students whose graduation dates fall after the pilot’s original end date will still have an opportunity to pursue permanent residence through this unique provincial immigration pathway.

What Has Changed?

The Private Career College Graduate Pilot was originally introduced in September 2022 as a three-year pilot designed to help address labour shortages while creating a permanent residence pathway for graduates of selected private career colleges.

The Government of New Brunswick has now confirmed that the pilot will continue through the end of 2027 in a limited capacity.

According to the official notice, the extension is intended to support international students who were already registered in specific eligible programs and who would not have graduated before the original expiry of the pilot program.

Who Can Benefit from the Extension?

The extension applies only to students who meet the program requirements.

Applicants must:

  • Be enrolled in an eligible program at an approved private career college.
  • Graduate from an eligible program.
  • Obtain an eligible full-time, non-seasonal job offer from a New Brunswick employer.
  • Secure employment in an approved occupation related to their field of study.
  • Meet all eligibility requirements of the Private Career College Graduate Pilot Program before submitting an application.

Eligible Private Career Colleges

The pilot continues to apply only to eligible programs offered by:

  • Eastern College
  • Oulton College

Not every program offered by these institutions qualifies. Students should carefully review the official list of eligible programs before making education or immigration decisions.

Priority Fields of Study

The pilot focuses on occupations experiencing labour shortages in New Brunswick.

Eligible programs lead to careers in sectors such as:

  • Education and Social Development
  • Health Care
  • Information Technology and Cybersecurity
  • Business Administration
  • Supply Chain and Logistics

Graduates must receive employment related to their completed program of study in order to qualify.

Job Offer Requirements

To qualify under the pilot, graduates must obtain a genuine job offer that is:

  • Full-time;
  • Non-seasonal;
  • From a New Brunswick employer; and
  • Related to the graduate’s field of study and an eligible occupation.

Applicants are also expected to become Permanent Residence Ready, meaning they should have all required documents prepared before submitting their provincial application.

What This Means for International Students

The extension provides greater certainty for eligible international students who began their studies with the expectation of applying through this pilot program.

Students who were concerned that their graduation would occur after the original pilot expiry now have additional time to complete their studies and pursue permanent residence, provided they continue to meet all program requirements.
